Women's Issues
HEAVY PERIODS
Heavy periods are a common problem affecting up to one in five women during their lifetime. Many don’t realize that this problem can be treated and accept it as part of “being a woman.” Others think that major surgery is the only answer and avoid seeking care. There is a successful option to a hysterectomy for abnormal bleeding called an endometrial ablation.
PELVIC PAIN
If you are a woman with pelvic pain, you are not alone. Many women suffer from pelvic pain and have accepted it as part of “being a woman.” This suffering is always not necessary. The latest technology provides effective diagnosis and treatment options. Frequently, pelvic pain can be effectively treated on an outpatient basis, thus avoiding major surgery and prolonged hospital stays.
Pelvic pain varies from woman to woman. Symptoms can include painful periods, pain with intercourse, a constant or intermittent aching, or a combination of these. Common causes of this pain include scar tissue, infections, cysts, fibroids, and endometriosis. Unfortunately, many women wait until the pain has completely disrupted their lifestyles before seeking care.
URINARY INCONTINENCE
If you suffer from the involuntary loss of urine, you are not alone. In fact, millions of women have this and think that nothing can be done. But this is not true. Successful, “minimally invasive” techniques for the treatment of urinary incontinence are now available, thus avoiding major surgery and a prolonged recovery.
The key in successfully treating urinary incontinence is determining which type the patient has. This is done by reviewing patient’s history, performing a physical exam, and then performing a simple test in the office called urodynamic testing. The entire test takes about 20 minutes and does not involve any significant discomfort.
